About me

I am a San Francisco Bay Area native, husband of 32 years, father of four adult children, grandfather, and owner of three Australian Shepherds.

I am the former pastor and co-founder of The Highway Community, a non-denominational church in Mountain View, California.

My 30 years of pastoral work provided a unique set of leadership and entrepreneurial experiences, including starting a new church, starting a video production company, owning and operating a third wave coffee shop, writing and recording music, leading a Board of Directors, managing staff and overseeing their professional development, building and leading volunteer teams, and creating communities of hospitality and belonging.

But the greatest honor was being present with people during life’s most significant moments— transitions, crisis, disappointment, loss, grief, joy, and celebration— to provide any combination of a listening ear, a calm and stabilizing presence, wisdom, perspective, encouragement, coaching, and counsel.

I love creating space for people to feel seen, heard, and understood.

I love helping people think creatively, from new perspectives.

And I love sharing tools, life experiences, and practices that enable courageous, centered living.

Currently, I serve as the Director of Compassion Week, which each year orchestrates 10 days of hands on service and learning opportunities for volunteers in partnership with local non-profits that are addressing basic needs of the community.

I also volunteer and serve on the Board of Directors for three non-profit organizations that are dear to my heart:

  • Hope’s Corner, which serves meals, and provides warm showers and laundry services three days a week to our homeless, under-housed, and senior adult neighbors in Mountain View;

  • the United Effort Organization, which is committed to helping neighbors who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness move toward self-sufficiency, and find a safe home in the community;

  • and Footsteps Missions, which operates an after school program for economic orphans in two different neighborhoods in Santa Barbara, Honduras.

I have numerous hobbies and interests, including (but not limited to) coffee (I’ve had an espresso machine in my home since 1998, and roast coffee in my garage), soccer (recreational player, English Premier League fan, and youth club coach for 10 years), guitar, cooking Italian food, smoking large pieces of meat, board games, and the San Francisco Giants.
